Are you ready to stop smoking or chewing tobacco?
We asked people who have remained tobacco free for more than 12 months, what made this attempt different than past tries? Here are 5 common responses.
- This time I did it for myself.
- I used medication (Nicotine Replacement Therapy, Zyban, Chantix) for the first time.
- I was diagnosed with (some serious health condition) and my doctor told me to quit.
- A family member or friend just died from a disease caused by their smoking.
- My child/grandchild has asthma (or other health condition) and cigarette smoke makes it worse.
All the people felt that their reasons to stop smoking or chewing were more important than their reasons to continue.
Is that how you feel?
Not sure?
It may help to write down the things you like about smoking or chewing tobacco and the things you don't like about using these tobacco products. Then jot down the things you like about becoming tobacco free and the things you don’t like about it. Take a look at your answers.
But before you do that why don't you just take a moment, close your eyes and picture what your life would be like tobacco free?
- How would you feel physically? Mentally?
- What would you look like?
- What would your day be like?
